Plan your next family trip

Family holidays involve more than booking flights and choosing a destination. There are accommodation arrangements, activities, luggage and travel documents to organise. If an unexpected illness, flight delay or baggage problem arises, the additional expense can affect the entire trip.

For families travelling from Dubai, travel insurance offers a way to prepare for some of these financial risks. A family policy can bring eligible family members under one plan, making it easier to manage their cover together.

Why consider family travel insurance?

One unexpected event can affect several family members. A medical emergency may require changes to everyone's plans, while a delayed flight can lead to missed connections and additional expenses.

Travel insurance may help with eligible costs arising from covered events and provide access to emergency assistance abroad.

A family policy simplifies administration by keeping eligible travellers under one arrangement. However, check who qualifies for inclusion, as not every relative is necessarily covered.

Family plan or annual family plan?

Sukoon offers two family options to consider, depending on your travel habits.

Family Plan: The Family Plan is designed for families travelling abroad on a single trip. It includes benefits for emergency medical expenses, trip cancellation, baggage problems and travel delays, subject to policy terms.

It may suit families planning one main holiday, visiting relatives overseas or taking a short international break.

Annual Family Plan: The Annual Family Plan is intended for families who travel abroad more frequently. Annual multi-trip cover can be convenient when you have several holidays or overseas visits planned throughout the year.

Before choosing annual cover, check the permitted duration of each trip, destination restrictions, and other conditions. An annual policy does not necessarily cover every journey without limits.

Both options have specific terms and benefit limits, so consider how often your family travels before choosing.

What does Sukoon Travel Easy cover?

Sukoon's travel easy details lists wide range of benefits for both the Family Plan and Annual Family Plan:

● Emergency medical expenses: Up to USD 60,000 for emergency accident and sickness medical expenses.
● Emergency medical evacuation: Included, subject to policy terms.
● Trip cancellation: Up to USD 1,000 for covered cancellation expenses.
● Lost or damaged luggage: Up to USD 500, subject to applicable limits.
● Trip delay: USD 50 per hour, up to USD 500.
● Missed departure/ Missed Connection: Up to USD 500.
● Personal liability: Coverage of up to USD 100,000 for eligible legal liability claims arising during travel, subject to policy terms.
● 24-hour assistance: Support during covered travel emergencies.

These are selected benefits, not a complete list. The product table also includes benefits relating to lost passports, personal money, legal fees, bail bonds, and home protection.

Importantly, the stated limits for family cover are per family, rather than automatically applying separately to every member. Waiting periods, deductibles, exclusions and other conditions may apply. Review the current policy wording before relying on a particular benefit.

Different generations, different needs

Children, adults and older travellers face different challenges when away from home.

A child might need medical attention after an accident or sudden illness. Parents may have to rearrange plans if someone becomes unwell. Grandparents may require medical assistance during their trip. Coverage for pre-existing medical conditions is subject to policy terms, conditions and exclusions.

Before purchasing cover, check age eligibility, medical benefits and exclusions. Do not assume that ongoing or a pre-existing medical condition will be covered. If you are travelling with older relatives, confirm their eligibility before making a purchase.

Preparing for medical needs

Medical expenses can be a concern when travelling abroad, particularly in destinations where treatment is expensive. Emergency medical cover can help with eligible expenses arising from a sudden illness or accident.

Review the medical limit and any applicable deductible. If someone in your family has an existing medical condition, check the exclusions and declaration requirements carefully. Do not assume that ongoing treatment or every complication of a pre-existing condition will be covered.

Carry essential medication, relevant medical information and emergency contact details to make it easier to seek assistance if someone becomes unwell.

When flights or baggage are delayed

Flight delays missed connections and baggage problems can disrupt a carefully planned holiday. Families may need alternative arrangements or must wait for essential belongings.

Travel insurance can provide benefits for certain delays and baggage-related incidents. Under Sukoon Travel Easy's family options, the published table lists hourly benefits for eligible baggage and trip delays, each capped at USD 500.

Waiting periods and supporting documents matter. Keep airline notifications, baggage reports, receipts, and booking confirmations if an incident occurs. Contact the insurer or assistance provider to understand the required steps.

Choosing the right cover

Compare policies based on your destination, trip duration, family composition and planned activities. Look beyond the premium and check medical protection, cancellation benefits, baggage limits and emergency assistance.

If your family travels several times a year, annual multi-trip cover may be worth comparing with single-trip insurance. For an occasional holiday, a family plan for that journey may be sufficient.

Review the options on Sukoon's travel insurance page, including the Travel Easy product details. Read the applicable terms before purchasing so you understand who is covered and how each benefit works.

Before you leave the UAE

Keep policy documents and emergency contact details accessible. Store copies of passports and bookings securely and check your destination's entry requirements.

Make sure the adults travelling together know how to contact the insurer if assistance is needed.

Family travel insurance cannot prevent every disruption, but it can help manage certain costs when covered events occur. Whether you choose Sukoon's Family Plan for a single trip or its Annual Family Plan for multiple journeys, understanding the benefits and limits beforehand helps you prepare for your holiday.

NOTE:

* Family Plan/Annual Family coverage limits are shared across the entire family.
* Family Plans are not Schengen Visa Compliant.
